Tom is a folk legend

-

Glenfarg Folk Club is proud to host another fantastic night with awardwinning fiddle player and singer Tom McConville.

In the Backstage Bar at the Green Hotel in Kinross next Monday, Tom is joined by longterm pal, fellow Geordie Tony Wilson, a fantastic singer, banjo player and guitarist.

Tom McConville is internationally renowned for his fiery, heart-stopping performances which are a roller coaster of musical delights, from fast rhythmic dance tunes through beautiful slow airs and of course great singing.

Crowned BBC Folk Musician of the Year in 2009, Tom has been hailed as the most original fiddle player in the UK. He blends traditional music from his home town of Newcastle with Irish, American and Scottish influences to create a sound that has elements of jazz, folk, bluegrass and classical music.

Over the years he has recorded with and appeared alongside performers as Tom McConville

diverse as Stephane Grappelli, Barbara Dickson, Lindisfarne, Richard Thompson and many others on well over a hundred albums - and continues to be in huge demand.

Seth Lakeman and Kate Rusby count him as a huge influence; indeed, it was Seth who presented Tom with his musician of the year award.

Tony Wilson, a fellow Geordie, has toured the world as a fantastic singer, banjo, guitarist and ukulele player as well as a first class storyteller.

Having first met in Leeds in the early 70s, Tom and Tony played alongside one another for many years, both as a duo and in numerous bands, having learnt all of their traditional tunes in the Irish pubs and songs from their constant touring on the folk circuit in the UK, America and Europe.

The musical pair link all of the songs with a wealth of anecdotes, delivered with an easy wit and charm.

Tom and Tony play for the Glenfarg Village Folk Club on February 25, 8pm. Tickets £6 for members and £9 for visitors.
