Hunt for disgusting food dump culprits

-

Moulin Community Council said: “We’re disgusted that a local business could do this, it’s entirely wrong.

“We’ve taken it up with local councillors and environmental health.”

Gillian O’Reilly, head of heritage at SSE said: “We are deeply disappointed by the actions of a mindless minority.

“We cannot understand why anyone would want to degrade an area of local beauty by dumping large quantities of food waste.

“We have reported the incidents to environmental health, the police and local councillors and we’ve worked with the community to clean it up.”

A police spokesman said:“Fly-tipping is an offence and anyone detected of this crime will be charged and reported to the procurator fiscal.

“If anyone sees fly-tipping in their area we would urge them to contact Police Scotland on 101 and, if possible, provide descriptions of people or vehicles used.”

Katie McCandless of the Dog Friendly Perthshire social media page warned pet owners of the dangers the waste food could pose: “Yet again this week, someone has dumped food waste next to Pitlochry Dam Visitor Centre.

“If eaten by a dog, this could make them extremely poorly. It’s a fact that old, rotten, mouldy food starts to produce toxins that can make you dog end up at the vet.

“Please be careful with waking your dogs in the area, as the last thing I would want is for them to eat

Food waste, nasty to pick up and potentially a hazard if eaten by dogs something that would make them very ill due to someone being completely irresponsible and selfish.”

A Perth and Kinross Council spokesperson added: “We would encourage all members of the public to help this process by being responsible with how they dispose of their own waste, and where they do spot flytipping, to report it as soon as possible.
