this well and continued to contact her via telephone and SMS messages against her wishes.”

She went to the police on December 19 after receiving further calls on her land line and he was warned by police not to contact her again.

On December 21, however, she received a number of voicemail messages.

The fiscal explained: “She immediately recognised the accused’s voice and was extremely distressed that he had chosen to ignore police advice.”

Between December 31 and January 7, there were a further 18 voicemails from the accused.

In one of them, left on December 31, Philpott stated: “After you called police on me that day, I thought that was the end. “I love you to bits and I miss you.” She didn’t answer any of the messages until January 7 when she became “so frustrated” and told him to stop phoning her.

On January 8, she went to the police office with the lengthy letter she had received from the accused that morning. He was then traced and arrested on January 12.

Solicitor Billy Somerville offered no objection to the imposition of the nonharassment order.

The accused had a number of domestic matters on his record and he added: “When he doesn’t get his own way, he reacts badly.”

Imposing the unpaid work as a “direct alternative” to prison, Sheriff Foulis told him: “A serious view is taken of such behaviour, particularly when there are previous convictions in a domestic context which appear in the record.”

Philpott, of Arnsmuir Caravan Park, Ladybank, will have to complete the work within nine months.
