Football supporters urged to be respectful
Football fans are being warned they must park responsibly during this weekend’s fixture against Between St Johnstone and Aberdeen.
St Johnstone will play host to the Dons on Saturday, February 23 at McDiarmid Park.
However, Perth and Kinross Council has issued a warning ahead of the match for fans not to park on the new access road to Perth Crematorium, or the crematorium’s own car park.
A spokesperson for the local authority said: “We have received a number of complaints about the car park and access road to Perth Crematorium being used for parking for Saints home matches which has prevented visitors to the crematorium from being able to park so they can visit the Garden of Remembrance.
“Visiting supporters are asked to follow the travel routes issued by their club and make use of the car parking facilities within the stadium which will be accessed initially via the north and south entrance gates.
“Thereafter, responsible street parking is encouraged keeping the needs of nearby businesses and residents in mind.
“The car park at the crematorium is not to be used for football traffic and the access road is not a public road. Signage and stewarding will be in place to enforce this regulation.”
The spokesperson continued:“There are also public transport options which will take you from Perth city centre up to McDiarmid Park.
“Perth city centre has plenty of car parks and there are two bus routes that stop outside the stadium.
“The number 1 and number 2 buses both depart from Mill Street and either will take you to a stop right outside the stadium - the number 2 is the slightly shorter route.”
And they added:“In addition, we have received complaints about litter being dumped following home matches throughout the grounds of the crematorium, including the Garden of Remembrance.
“If you are walking through the grounds please show respect and dignity for the surroundings and the people who are there visiting loved ones.” St Johnstone entertain Aberdeen on Saturday
