Kinnoull set for a crack at high-flying Scone Thistle

-

The Junior football fixture card has thrown up a mouth-watering Perthshire derby fixture this weekend.

High-flying Scone Thistle, who sit top of the Premier League North, welcome rivals Kinnoull in the East Region Cup third round.

Kinnoull boss Alan Cameron has been impressed with the Jags’form this term but knows anything can happen in cup competition.

“The table doesn’t lie and Scone are obviously on form,”he said. “It’s good to see a local team up there.

“We’re going to have our work cut out on Saturday because they are playing really well with a good squad and togetherness.

“It will be a tough afternoon but, it’s a cup game, so the league goes out the window. We’ll give it our best shot.

“You go into a cup game and you can beat anyone, because it’s 90 minutes and a one-off.

“It’s the early rounds of the cup so there are still a few more games before you can even get close to semi-final or a final.

“We have a few injury worries to go over and we’re probably missing three guys. Injuries seem to be coming at the wrong time.

“But others are there to step up so we’ll see how it goes on Saturday.”

Scone manager Derek Lawson watched his side defeat East Craigie in the league last weekend and will want to keep the momentum flowing.

“I was delighted to get three points,”he said.“It’s always a hard, close game against East Craigie.

“My players put in a workman like performance and we now look forward to this weekend’s cup game against Kinnoull.”

In the Premier League North, Blairgowrie are on home duty against Lochee Harp while Luncarty host Brechin Vics.

Coupar Angus play Forfar Albion in the East Region League Cup.
