Perth’s Duncan McFadzean in action at the World Junior Curling Championships. Chris Kane admitted he needed a good night’s sleep after his hard-working shift in last week’s draw at Rangers.

Now the St Johnstone forward has his sights set on putting Aberdeen’s hopes of three McDiarmid Park points to bed on Saturday.

Tommy Wright’s Saints are attempting to stretch their top-six cushion over the chasing pack when the Dons visit Perth.

Kane, whose performance at Ibrox was impressive, wants to play a starring role in the club’s forthcoming fixtures.

“I needed a good night’s sleep but I’m feeling good and fit,” the 24-year-old said. “I enjoy games like that and like getting into wee tussles. I like the physical games.

“I need to stay fit, stay in the team and play as well as I can. If the manager decides to keep me in then I’ll be delighted with that. If I get a goal that is the added bonus.

“We have a few hard games coming up but if we play like we did on Saturday we’ll pick up more results. I don’t see why we can’t look forward to getting a top-six place.

“We knew at the start of the season it would be a hard year but we have a great squad now. Getting a top-six finish would be a good achievement.”

Kane stressed how important it was to keep a solid shape last week following five consecutive defeats. He said: “We knew if we came to Ibrox and played the way we can then we could get a result. We set out our game-plan, stuck to it and it worked.

“We were brilliant and right from the start we didn’t give Rangers a minute’s peace. We battled away, created chances, defended well and on another day could have got the three points.

“I was happy with my performance and I thought I helped the team out, doing what the gaffer told me to do. He said I played well.”
