Ailsa goes to great lengths to help orangutan charity
Ailsa Templeton A Perthshire youngster is undergoing a hair chop to raise money for an animal welfare charity next month.
Ailsa Templeton (11) has been raising money for The Orangutan Foundation over the last four months and is building up to having her metre long hair cut to raise even more money for the charity.
The foundation helps save endangered orangutans by protecting their tropical forest habitat, working with local communities and promoting research and education.
Ailsa is set to lose her locks at a pop up event that will take place on Saturday, March 23 from 2.30pm to 4.30pm at Longforgan Church Hall.
Her hair will be donated to The Little Princess Trust, who produce hair wigs free of charge to children and young people up to the age of 24 that have sadly lost their own hair due to cancer.
So far Ailsa has also appeared at bake sales, made home-made Christmas decorations and raising money via an online donation site, at wonderful.org, and has raised close to £500 to date. Ailsa has also been making jewellery from sea glass
Proud dad Alan couldn’t be happier with all the selfless fundraising Ailsa has done on her own.
He said:“Given that she is only 11, we have all been bowled over by her dedication to raising funds and the time and effort she has put in to a cause she feels very strongly about.”
“Ailsa has also been making jewellery from sea glass and my wife, family and friends will be making cakes to sell on the day.”
The day will also have a pop-up cafe and a craft sale.
