On the right path with contribution pledge
A major utility company has said it will give something back to Perth residents, after their works saw a footpath shut for months.
Local campaigners are celebrating after the news the path between Craigie View and Woodside Crescent has now reopened.
The Craigie path had been sealed off in the autumn to make way for waterworks by Scottish Water.
However, the work ended up being delayed by months, meaning the path was only reopened last week.
Cllr Willie Wilson, who represents Perth City South at Perth and Kinross Council, has now said Scottish Water has pledged to give something back to the community because of how long the works took.
The Lib Dem representative said: “Scottish Water has apologised for the delays, which were caused by problems with their contractors.
“In recognition of residents’ patience while the work has been going on, the contractors would like to offer something to benefit the local residents and the wider community. We will be discussing with the community what this might be.”
The reopening of the path has been welcomed by local campaigner Liz Barrett, who had been calling on Scottish Water to progress with their plans for the footpath for months.
She said:“I’m so pleased that our persistence has paid off and this vital link route is back.
“It’s been warmly welcomed by joggers, cyclists and dog walkers, and is really useful for pupils walking to school as the weather gets better.” Liz Barrett
