Enjoy magic of the Bard on the big screen

Residents living in Perth will be able to enjoy Shakespear­e on stage from the comfort of Perth Playhouse.

The cinema on Murray Street will be live streaming a number of upcoming performanc­es by the Royal Shakespear­e Company on the big screen.

This will allow residents to enjoy theatrical culture from the cinema.

The first of these plays will be‘As You Like It’on Wednesday, April 17 at 7pm.

In this play, Rosalind is banished, wrestling with her heart and her head.

With her cousin by her side, she journeys to a world of exile where barriers are broken down and all can discover their deeper selves.

Director Kimberley Sykes directs is riotous, exhilarati­ng version of Shakespear­e’s romantic comedy.

The next show will come on Wednesday, June 5 at 7pm with‘The Taming of the Shrew’.

In a re-imagined 1590, England is a matriarchy.

Baptista Minola is seeking to sell off her son Katherine to the highest bidder, leading to an explosive battle of the sexes in this electrical­ly charged love story.

Justine Audibert turns Shakespear­e’s fierce, energetic comedy of gender and materialis­m on its head to offer a fresh perspectiv­e on its portrayal of hierarchy and power.

Finally,‘Measure to Measure’will be shown on Wednesday, July 31 at 7pm.

When a young novice nun is compromise­d by a corrupt official, who offers to save her brother from execution in return for sex, she has no idea where to turn for help.

When she threatens to expose him, he tells her that no on would believe her.

Shakespear­e wrote this play in the early 1600s, yet it remains astonishin­gly resonant today.

Artistic director Gregory Doran will direct this new production.

Each live streamed performanc­e by the Royal Shakespear­e Company will cost £17.50, concession­s £15.
