Jags hit four past Kinnoull

-

SCONE THISTLE 4 KINNOULL 0 Scone Thistle earned the bragging rights in Saturday’s Perthshire derby tussle at Farquharson Park.

The Jags ran out 4-0 winners against Kinnoull in the third round of the East Region Cup to continue a positive run of form.

Kevin Sinclair opened the scoring to give the hosts a slender lead at the break but further goals from Craig Mitchell, Aaron Carlon and Max Avolio made it a comfortable afternoon.

Scone midfielder Sinclair highlighted the importance of the first goal in these local fixtures and said:“The boys were excellent on Saturday.

“Kinnoull are a good side and it speaks volumes of our performance that we were able to put four goals without reply past a strong team.

“The first goal is always the most important in a game. Our defensive record is excellent at home so we always feel very confident after getting the first goal to not only see out the game but go and get more goals.

“I was delighted to get on the scoresheet and our team is capable of goals from all over the pitch, demonstrated by a number of different scorers this season.”

Sinclair hopes the good times keep rolling at Scone and added:“We are high in confidence just now but have a lot of tough games between now and the end of the season.

“We will take things one game at a time and see where it takes us come the end of the season.”

In the Premier League North, Luncarty remain unbeaten after seeing off Brechin Vics 5-0 at Brownlands Park. Fraser Mills and Sean Fergus both netted doubles while Oliver Saffery was also on the scoresheet.

The Bleachers sit third in the standings, level on points with Scone and one point behind leaders Dundee North End.

Boss Jon Kelly said: “I was very pleased with Saturday’s performance. The work rate and attitude was very good. We had five or six very experienced players missing due to injury but I thought the lads dealt with it first class.

“We asked a few of them to play out of position and there were no complaints. They just got on with the task in hand in a very efficient manner.

“It was great to get a clean sheet as the defence and goalkeeper Duncan Bruce looked very solid.”

It proved to be a disappointing afternoon for Blairgowrie who were defeated 5-0 by Lochee Harp on home soil. Coupar Angus, competing in the East Region League Cup, lost 4-0 against Forfar Albion.
