Those living with dementia are being encouraged to join a singing group in Bankfoot.

The singing group, which meets weekly in Bankfoot Church Centre, looks to help those living with dementia by bringing people together and singing for pleasure.

Now, they want to encourage even more people to come along and get involved.

A spokesperson for the group said: “The signing group is for anyone who enjoys singing.

“We are a dementia friendly singing group, this means we all take special care to include people living with dementia in the group.

“There are no auditions, rehearsals or performances, it is all about the pleasure of singing favourite songs from The Beatles, Sound of Music, ABBA, folk songs, Rod Stewart - as the group grows so will our list of your favourite songs too.

“We especially welcome people who mainly sing in the bath or the car to come and enjoy making a joyful sound.

“We are trained volunteers who aim to enhance the lives of people with dementia, their carers and friends by introducing them to group singing and its many benefits.”

The spokesperson continued: “We usually sing monthly at Bankfoot Church Centre on a Thursday from 11am until 12pm, look out for the next date advertised on our website, www.bankfootchurch.org

“The church cafe is open weekdays 9.30am to 1.30pm if you fancy a coffee before singing or would like to join us for lunch or refreshments afterwards.

“There is no charge for the signing group, our normal cafe prices would apply for those joining us for something there.

“If you would like to sing in a group, or would like to volunteer to help out, please leave a message for Fiona Lough at Bankfoot Church Centre on 01738 788017 or just come along.”
