Therapist Rory’s ultra charity challenge run

-

A music therapist who regularly puts in time at Perth’s Ochil Care Home spent the weekend doing a gruelling Ultra run.

Rory Campbell from Galashiels in the Scottish Borders, has worked for Barchester which operates the care home for nine years doing music therapy with the residents.

Playing the pipes is one of his talents, but he also likes tough outdoor challenges.

Father-of-three Rory is a passionate runner in his spare time and he decided to put his running towards a good cause.

He’s been running 209 miles or 336 kilometres over four events to raise money for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation.

Beginning at the end of March, he ran The John Muir Ultra, The Highland Fling, the Scottish Islands Peaks Race and St Cuthbert’s Way Ultra, all within three months. The last bit, St Cuthbert’s Way, was completed this weekend past.

He did the second race, The Highland Fling, in April - a 7500ft ascent in the pouring rain.

Rory’s third run was the Scottish Islands Peaks Race, which started on May 17 and involved sailing and running 63 miles in total, starting on Mull, on to Jura, then Arran and finishing in Troon, non-stop.

Last weekend, on June 29, Rory ran from Holy Island and finished up 62 miles on in the Scottish Borders town of Melrose.

That’s not the end for Rory’s magnificent efforts - in September he’s planning on running through four European countries in an eight-day multistage event in the Alps.

Elizabeth Stewart, general manager at Ochil Care Home in Perth said: “Everyone at Ochil was keen to show Rory support on his adventure, especially the residents who enjoyed hearing all about the experience, and we are really proud of Rory to have been able to raise this money.”

Rory said: “Barchester’s Charitable Foundation is a great cause that helps many people in need, particularly lonely older people, which is a cause very close to the hearts of all our staff and residents.”
