Great day of golf at Perth Artisans Open

-

Glenn Campbell carded a two-under par 66 to be crowned scratch winner of the 140th Perth Artisans Open at the North Inch on Saturday.

The experienced internationalist edged out fellow Blairgowrie member Fraser Matthews courtesy of a better inward half.

Campbell, a greenkeeper at the course, was delighted with his victory and equally pleased to hear such positive feedback from a jam-packed entry of players.

“The last three or four years, the fields have gradually been getting bigger which is great,” he said.

“I enjoyed the course and played well. I shot 66, a couple under-par, and to win at the North Inch makes it a wee bit more special for me.

“I’m still working down there and maybe have a wee bit of inside knowledge. But it’s probably the first time I’ve played the course this year.

“The feedback has been really positive. They all really enjoyed the golf course apart from the ones who got soaked in the thunderstorm!

“The course is moving in the right direction and we want to keep improving it as we move forward.

“It was basically a full field on Saturday, solid from 7.30am through until around 3.30pm, with players from all over.”

Matthews won the overall handicap prize with a nett 63.

Alexander Whytock posted a score of 67 for the lowest scratch total from a home player. He received the Friendship Trophy for his efforts.

Nearest the pin on the third went to Kevin Prait from Inverness, while Winston Flynn stuck his ball closest on the 13th. The longest drive on the day was won by Eddie Petterson.

A spokesperson for Perth Artisans posted: “A massive thank you to all the green staff for presenting the course in fantastic condition and to all the volunteers for all your hard work.

“Last but not least a massive thank you to all the players, especially the ones who were caught in the bad conditions and went back out to complete the round.”
