Gerard Butler shows his support for Comrie Hollywood superstar Gerard Butler is proving he’s no ‘fallen angel’when it comes to backing events in Perthshire.

For the A-list actor has once again pledged his support for the Comrie Fortnight.

Gerard, who has a soft spot for the Shaky Village, is sponsoring a new addition to the programme for the annual extravagan­za’s 50th anniversar­y.

‘Comrie Brings It Home’is a mini festival lined up for Saturday, July 27.

From 3pm, musicians encompassi­ng all genres will take to the stage in the Laggan Park.

A bar and food from Gourlay’s Catering will be available and entry to the festival is £8.

Gerard Butler spoke to the PA’s sister paper the Strathearn Herald and said: “Congratula­tions to the Comrie Fortnight on reaching this milestone birthday.

“I love Comrie and its people and am very happy to be able to give my support.

“It’s a great place and the community spirit is fantastic.

“I wish everyone an enjoyable fortnight.”

Gerard is no stranger to pledging his support and in the past has sponsored events such as ladies’night and a trip to Blackpool.

His latest film,‘Angel Has Fallen’, is set to hit the screens next month.

Diane Hunter, treasurer of Comrie Fortnight, said:“We were so grateful to receive Gerard’s most generous donation towards‘Comrie Brings It Home’.

“His contributi­on will make a significan­t difference to the running costs of this.

“We have concentrat­ed on asking local bands and singers to perform, including a group of young Celtic musicians.

“We are extremely lucky to have these artists available to us as well as the sound engineer, an in-house DJ and support team.

“The event is due to start late afternoon and go through the evening and, again, because of Gerard’s assistance we have been able to reduce the ticket price.”

And it is not only Gerard who is helping keep the five decade-long tradition going.

The Comrie Fortnight Associatio­n has been overwhelme­d by sponsorshi­p this year.

Secretary Helen Ann Stewart said it is thanks to such sponsorshi­p and donations that the fortnight continues to be a tour de force.

She said:“Comrie Fortnight Associatio­n is very grateful to have received numerous sponsorshi­ps towards events this year.

“We have also received funding from Perth and Kinross Council and Comrie Community Council to subsidise activities in our special anniversar­y year.

“We consider ourselves to be very lucky to have so much support, enabling us to provide so many varied events.”
