Two landings at Loch Rannoch

-

Two medical emergencies saw Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) make the flight to the Loch Rannoch area twice on the same day at the weekend.

The first was to Rannoch Station where a man was suffering severe chest pains.

The helicopter landed in the grounds of Moor of Rannoch Hotel allowing paramedics speedy access to the patient.

He was treated at the scene and then taken by road ambulance to hospital.

SCAA was back at base when a second call prompted a flight back to Loch Rannoch - this time to the other end of the loch where an elderly woman required an immediate airlift to advanced hospital care at Ninewells, Dundee.

The flight to hospital took less than 25 minutes - a journey of several hours by road.

SCAA took a trip to the beach this week when a rider was injured in a fall from her horse at Hedderwick Sands near Dunbar.

SCAA joined colleagues from the Coastguard, RNLI, Scottish Ambulance Service and Police Scotland after landing on the beach near the patient. The rider, who sustained leg injuries in the fall, was then airlifted by SCAA to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Other emergency missions for SCAA in the past week included a call to Arran where a woman required an urgent transfer to mainland hospital care.

The charity air ambulance soon had her safely transferred to Crosshouse Hospital at Kilmarnock.

And a call to Stranraer saw SCAA airlift a heart attack patient rapidly to crucial coronary care at the Golden Jubilee Hospital at Clydebank.

*** Quizzers at Fearnan have helped raise £177.

The money was part of the proceeds of a quiz night held in the village’s McLean Hall recently, organised by the hall committee.

Tayside Contracts’ workforce continued its support of SCAA with a donation of £1500 from their recent annual awards dinner.

This brings the organisation’s total support of the air ambulance charity to £8,492.50 to date.

And SCAA was extremely grateful to receive a £36,000 donation from a Blairgowrie family this week following a legacy left to them by a relative.

Many people across Perthshire have kindly thought of SCAA during a family bereavement with monies raised at funeral collections being donated to the air ambulance.

This week alone, SCAA received £705 from a Luncarty family, £550 from a Perth family and £398.54 from a Pitlochry family - all in the memory of their lost loved ones.

Families think of SCAA at happier times as well.

This week a Luncarty couple gifted £200 from their diamond wedding celebrations.

Locally placed SCAA collecting cans being emptied and counted this week include those from the Country Store, Kinloch Rannoch £21.23 and Home Bargains, Perth £188.68.

*** SCAA is looking for adventurous and fun-loving supporters to sign up for this year’s Lanrick Challenge which takes place on the scenic Lanrick Estate near Doune on Saturday, August 3.

The fun-filled obstacle course can be tackled at one of three levels - a 12km route, a 6km route and a Mini Mud route for little ones aged 5-12 years.

You can register online for the Lanrick Challenge via Eventbrite.
