Young talent set to represent Scotland

-

are joined in the squad by Muckhart’s Andrew Thornton, who will play at Ashburnham in Wales between August 6-8.

A spokesperson for the union said: “For our‘small’county to have five players selected to play is just incredible.

“So much effort has gone into developing our junior set up with coaching and events that enhance what has been happening at club level.

“The vision and changes adopted at county level a number of years ago, that mirror Scottish Golf’s development and performance academies, is now delivering the success we see today.

“There are too many people to thank for helping make this happen, but most notably, it was the change of direction put in place by the late Barrie Douglas, supported by the Perth and Kinross executive, then followed up at club and county level by Stuart Graham, Iain Butchart, Rodney Neil and others.

“This is now continuing at Milnathort with Gillian and Alastair Wallace and their team and at Muckhart with Rosemary Turlik and all her team and Strathmore continue to buck all national trends with Iain, Dawn, Frankie, Jackie and all their helpers.

“We have some resurgence in the north of the county, with all the efforts of Susi Lumsden at Taymouth, Pitlochry are now laying the foundations again, as are Kinross, Crieff, Auchterarder and Murrayshall.

“The introduction of the‘Golf 6’s’ programme will really boost these clubs next year.

“A special mention must go to all the parents who spend their lives as taxi drivers, taking our players to all points of the compass locally, nationally and even internationally - your assistance and support is really appreciated.

“We may be one of the smallest counties in terms of numbers - but our framework and structure is in place and having five players selected to represent their country is just simply incredible.

“Well done everyone.”
