COURT Accused of holding knife to partner’s neck in attack

-

A 29-year-old man will face trial at Perth Sheriff Court next month on a five-charge indictment, including one of attacking his partner and holding a knife against her neck.

Gordon Dewar, described as a prisoner at Perth, is also said to have assaulted two police officers, allegedly brandishing a bottle at one of them.

Represented by local lawyer Linda Clark, his trial has been scheduled for September 16.

It is claimed that on April 20, 2019, at a house in Potterhill Gardens, Perth, he assaulted Denise Kelly by throwing her to the ground and repeatedly kicking her on the body.

He is then said to have seized her by the neck and held the blade against it.

A second charge alleges that he attempted to head-butt PC Steven McEwan at the flat and tried to bite him on the body.

He is further alleged to have brandished a bottle at PC Mark Ross and attempted to hit him on the head with it.

A fourth charge states he resisted PCs Ross and McEwan and colleague Christopher McInnes by struggling with them and repeatedly attempting to lash out with his arms and legs.

The final charge alleged that in a police vehicle, en route from Potterhill Gardens to Perth Police HQ, he repeatedly shouted and swore at the three officers and repeatedly kicked and struck the inside of the van.

Mrs Clark submitted a variety of pleas to the charges, denying some and pleading guilty to others as amended.

But these were rejected by depute fiscal Eilidh Robertson.

Dewar’s trial will take place before a jury on September 16 and is expected to last two days.

The accused was remanded in custody meantime.
