Daily pint is back on doorsteps - in bottles

-

After struggling to find a company to deliver in glass, D&D Dairies in Crieff agreed that if the demand was there in Aberfeldy, they would run a delivery.

Grace used her social media contacts to get the idea out to others and yesterday she was up early to collect her first glass pinter.

“I grew up in Australia and we didn’t have the glass milk bottles everyone remembers over here,” explained fitmess instructor Grace (37), who moved to Aberfeldy in 2012.

“The funny thing too is, I never drunk much milk when I was young. But now I have a child, I think about the importance of milk as part of a balanced diet. We get through about 12 pints a week.

“I wouldn’t say I’m perfect, but I do as much as I can to make eco-sensitive choices.

“I change my habits where possible.

“The whole plastic thing has really got my goat, so when I visited my sister-in-law and saw they get milk in bottles, I wanted to see if we could have the same thing in Aberfeldy.

“My sister in law was getting milk bottles through David McIntosh Milk Deliveries in Alloa. When I Googled them they said they would be interested if I got others from Aberfeldy in on it.”

Grace put out a post in May, asking if others out there would join her in calling for milk in re-usable containers.

The response was good, but then the company decided Aberfeldy was too far for them to come.

“When I saw Glen Lyon Coffee Roasters had found someone willing to do it, I went back and sought out their supplier, D&D Dairies in Crieff.

“Since I asked the community again earlier this week if they would get on the delivery list, D&D said they had a member of staff working till 8pm dealing with all the enquiries from Aberfeldy.

“Now it looks like Pitlochry will be added to the delivery round.”

Graham’s The Family Dairy launched the glass bottles in the beginning of June and has gone into partnership with D&D Dairies to deliver them to Aberfeldy and surrounding areas.
