Organisers are impressed

The organisers of this year’s Perthshire Pride say they have received a huge amount of support from the community.

Perthshire Pride, which will celebrate the region’s LGBT community, will be staged tomorrow (Saturday, August 10) outside Perth Concert Hall and will include the city’s first ever Pride parade.

Anna Davies, co-chair of Perthshire Pride, said: “It is going to be brilliant, we have been getting more and more support.

“Even now we are getting messages from people wanting to join in and be part of our parade and asking how they can support us, so I am really excited.

“There will be quite a few different groups and charities in the parade, including LGBT Youth and Dog Friendly Perthshire, and the Trans Alliance will be there with a massive flag – it is huge, it needs 15 people to carry it.

“We have had some individuals coming to us and saying this is their first ever Pride parade and saying they are maybe slightly worried it will be overwhelming, but it is all Revellers at last year’s Pride event in Perth going to be great fun. It is an honour for people to say this will be their first ever Pride parade, and it is fantastic we are able to make that difference to other people and welcome them into this community.

“Perth as a whole has been very, very supportive and we have had lots of people who are not LGBT wanting to support us, so they are part of our community as well as allies. It is fantastic to see all the support, it isvery heartwarming.”

The day will kick off with a parade leaving from South Inch car park at noon, which will travel down Tay Street and end at the Pride Village on Horsecross Plaza.

From there, a full day of activities and entertainment is planned.
