Seven call outs for emergency crew

-

Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) took to the air seven times in the past week, airlifting six seriously ill or injured patients to hospital.

A two car road traffic collision took the team to Dunkeld where the helicopter landed on open ground behind the doctors’surgery and a kind passer-by transported the SCAA paramedics and their kit to the nearby accident scene on the A9.

The paramedics then worked with Scottish Ambulance Service colleagues to treat two injured at the scene before airlifting one of the drivers to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

The air ambulance was quickly on scene when a woman suffered leg injuries when she fell from a horse at a hillside location near Newburgh.

SCAA was able to land near the injured woman, quickly airlifting her to hospital at Dundee from the inaccessible accident site.

A north east farmer sustained chest and back injuries when he rolled a quad bike on land near Huntly, resulting in SCAA being scrambled to the remote scene.

The crew worked alongside a BASICS responder and Scottish Ambulance Service crew before airlifting the injured man to advanced care at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

And an Auchtermuchty farmer required an emergency airlift to hospital after taking ill at a remote part of his land.

SCAA was again able to land close to the emergency and transfer the patient to hospital care at Dundee in just a few minutes.

SCAA also landed on the beach near St Andrews where a woman was injured in a fall.

The team worked with colleagues from the coastguard and Scottish Ambulance Service land crews before airlifting the woman to advanced care at Ninewells Hospital - just minutes away by air at Dundee.

It was a longer flight for the charity service crew when a patient required an urgent transfer from Rothesay to mainland hospital care at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Paisley.

SCAA welcomed hundreds of people to its stand at Perth Show.

£1147.94 was raised through a tombola, raffle, sale of merchandise and donations.

Other businesses taking a stand at Perth Show also threw their weight behind SCAA’s fundraising efforts.

The Morris Leslie Group raised £94.44 through a mini digger challenge while Struan Motors secured another £45.76 through face painting at its stand.

J M Customs hit the right note for SCAA when it staged a fundraising music event at their Perth premises, raising £674.97 for the helicopter air ambulance.

Thanks also to the RAF Association who arrived at SCAA’s airbase with a £1000 donation to support the charity’s life-saving work.

And Police Scotland youth volunteers have made an arresting contribution to SCAA’s work through a £2366.79 donation from several fundraising events.

Two Blairgowrie sisters who have supported SCAA since the service launched have donated a further £170.74 raised at their latest car boot sale.

Pitlochry Station Bookshop gave a further £300 this week bring its total donations to £34,816.27.

Supporters are registering with Amazon Smile and every time they shop online, eligible retailers make a donation to SCAA. The latest quarterly payment has raised £108.52. And a further £1013.95 has been donated through Facebook in the past two weeks, bringing the total gifted through the social media site to date to £17,859.85.
