But Saints miss out on the signing of striker Hemmings

-

Tuesday night’s Colts match against Cove Rangers in the Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup.

And now the 23-year-old is hoping to add an extra crunch to the Saints backline if given the nod tomorrow.

Saints, who have missed out on the signing of new Dundee striker Kane Hemmings, welcome Livingston to McDiarmid Park and Gordon feels he is more than ready to be called upon if needed.

“It was horrendous timing with the injury,” Gordon explained to the PA. “We had just got through the hardest part of pre-season. I was flying and the injury was so freakish.

“As I landed after a tackle in training, my hand slipped and the whole weight of my body came down on it.

“I knew right away I was going to miss games. It was just so frustrating.

“But now I definitely feel 100 per cent ready to play on Saturday if the manager wants me.”

Gordon played 75 minutes against Cove Rangers and exited the action with the score locked at 1-1, but the visitors netted three late on.

“It was good to get a run out and I felt good out there,” he said. “I only had two 45-minutes before I hurt Liam Gordon has recovered from a fractured elbow

myself in pre-season.

“I didn’t bother strapping the elbow. I didn’t want that. I know it is going to get bumped in games so I had to prepare myself for that.

“I actually went out of my way to do a few slide tackles to test it out. It felt good.

“I was impressed with the young boys. There were a lot of new faces.

“They were brilliant and a credit to themselves. It was just Cove’s experience that came into it in the closing stages.”

Despite his injury setback Gordon remained active to make sure his fitness levels weren’t dropping too much.

He was in the stands last week to watch Saints get pulled apart by Celtic on the opening day of the season, conceding a sorry seven.

“I have done a lot of general fitness work, spinning on the bike every day and running for two weeks now,” Gordon said.

“I trained on Monday for the first time since the injury but I haven’t lost any fitness over the last few weeks.

“I went through to watch the Celtic game and obviously it was far from ideal. We should have been much better.

“But we have a big game now against Livingston. We want to bounce back and get three points, nothing less.”

Meanwhile, where former striker Stevie May is going to end up for the season ahead remained up in the air yesterday. Saints had been in talks with the Scottish Cup winner.

The 26-year-old travelled with the Aberdeen squad to Croatia earlier this week for a Europa League tie with HNK Rijeka.
