Food bank’s plea with stocks running low

Although many of its shelves are empty, the food bank does have enough supplies of dried pasta, soup and baked beans.

However one local business is trying to raise funds quickly to help the food bank.

Hettie’s Tearoom, also on the town’s Atholl Road, has introduced a ‘pay it forward’ scheme for the week.

All this week, envelopes have been left on each table in the tearoom, with customers encouraged to make a small donation towards Pitlochry Food Bank.

Clare Pinchbeck, owner of Hettie’s Tearoom, said: “We are doing this for five days. Some of our staff said we should do something for the food bank, so we have put together a little ‘pay it forward’ idea.

“I think some of the team here have friends who have used the food bank before, and we feel this is something people need in our community.

“We had a little bit of a joke saying we would like to raise £100 a day, but I suspect we are actually doing that.

“We hope this can make a difference. Although the food bank is a local thing, most of our customers are internatio­nal, so it is good to see them giving something back to the community.”

The tearoom’s fundraisin­g drive will continue running until Sunday, August 18, when all the money will be counted up, and handed over to the food bank on Monday morning.

Donations to the food bank can also be handed in directly to the Atholl Centre, which is based behind Pitlochry Baptist Church.
