Sterling support behind chamber’s annual golf day

-

Barrie Douglas Final preparations are underway and a small number of spaces are still available for Perthshire Chamber of Commerce’s annual golf day.

The chamber is delighted to welcome Carbon Financial Partners as their generous sponsors of the event for the eighth year running.

The big day, which is always a sell-out, takes place at Pitlochry Golf Club in the afternoon of Friday, August 30.

The afternoon will tee off with a hot filled roll, tea or coffee upon arrival followed by a round of golf on the terrific Pitlochry course.

Afterwards, players will enjoy a two course meal before the golfing greats of the day will be rewarded at the prize-giving ceremony.

Carbon’s managing director, Gordon Wilson, is looking forward to it: “After the success of the last seven years, Carbon is delighted to be sponsoring the chamber golf event again.

“The chamber and Pitlochry Golf have put together a fantastic and exclusive day to remember, which I am sure will prove hugely popular with members and their guests.”

Vicki Unite, chief executive of Perthshire Chamber of Commerce, is also excited about the event.

She said: “We are delighted to have the support of Carbon Financial Partners for the eighth year running.

“With a sterling package provided by Pitlochry Golf Club, we are very much looking forward to providing a wonderful day of golfing excitement and hope to build on the success of previous chamber annual golf days.”

And, once again, the partners are supporting the Barrie Douglas Foundation.

The foundation was set-up in memory of the Perth businessman who died two years ago after taking ill at a golf tournament in Spain.

The aim was to ensure he was remembered fondly Mark Christie, corporate director of Carbon Financial Services, and Vicki Unite, chief executive of Perthshire Chamber of Commerce

through support for youth sport.

Barrie passed away, aged 69, while captaining Scottish Golf’s European Boys at the Team Championship in La Manga.

Passionate in promoting junior golf, the onetime Scottish boys international and champion at Blairgowrie and Craigie Hill golf clubs, also served with Perth and Kinross County and was a GB&I selector for the R&A.

The Douglas family and the foundation trustees have been touched by the support offered by the Perthshire business community.

In the inaugural year, around £10,000 was distributed to Perth and Kinross County Golf, Perthshire Rugby Club and St Johnstone FC.

This would not have been possible without the support of Carbon Financial, GS Group, Blackadders, McLeod Glaziers, GS Brown Construction and Dental Technique.

Two successful ‘Blackadders Barrie Douglas Scottish Junior Masters’ tournaments have been held with the support of Blairgowrie Golf Club and Strathmore Golf Centre, attracting more than 100 girls and boys from across Scotland.

They were attended by Open champion Paul Lawrie and fellow Ryder Cup veteran Stephen Gallacher, who has established their own foundations.

This year, the three foundations have teamed-up for ‘The Race to the Machrie’ in Islay, with successful young players enjoying a chance to test their skills against the famous links course.

Trustee Jennifer Davidson said: “None of this would have been possible without the support of so many local businesses.

“It is fantastic to have the backing of Perthshire Chamber for the cause.

“This year our plans include reaching out to another sport dad enjoyed, with junior curling teams being considered.”

Gordon Wilson added: “We are delighted to again sponsor the annual chamber charity golf day at Pitlochry Golf Club. It’s always a popular event on the local business calendar.

“Carbon is a proud supporter of the Barrie Douglas Foundation. Backing for youth sport fits in with our corporate ethos of ‘being the best you can be.’

“That also translates into support for the Paul Lawrie Foundation and the Bill McLaren Foundation.”

Vicki Unite added: “Barrie was a regular at Chamber events and a well-known and much-loved member of the community. We’re delighted to be able to remember him and support his legacy.”
