Closures as Solheim Cup footbridge erected across A9
The A9 will be subjected to overnight closures from this weekend to install temporary footbridges for the Solheim Cup.
BEAR Scotland will be installing twin temporary footbridges over the A9 at Gleneagles to support transport requirements for the tournament with work to start on Sunday, August 18.
The footbridges will be positioned at the old train station access road and will allow thousands of spectators arriving at Gleneagles train station to access the golf course.
The installation and removal of these bridges and barriers will require five overnight closures of the A9 in both directions.
The road will be closed between 8pm and 6am from Sunday, August 18 to Tuesday, August 20 to allow the installation.
The same overnight closures will take place after the tournament when the bridges are to be removed on Thursday, September 19 and Saturday, September 21. Local diversions will be provided between the Gleneagles and Auchterarder junctions of the A9 during the closure times.
Pedestrian access to the train station and emergency service access will be maintained but bus stops within the closures will not be operational.
Andy Thompson, BEAR Scotland’s north east unit representative, said: “The use of these temporary footbridges will reduce disruption to motorists and provide convenient access between the golf course and train station.
“For everyone’s safety, it will be necessary to close the A9 in both directions while the bridges and barriers are being installed and subsequently removed after the event, with teams working to complete operations as quickly and safely as possible.”
