“It’s great to show all the new girls that we can do well in different competitions and that it’s not just there for the league.

“Waiting for the draw is always nerve-wracking because you never know who you’re going to get.

“It’s a big thing because you’re trying to prove how good you are as a player and as a team.”

Getting on the scoresheet was pleasing for Cowie and now she hopes to continue on the goal trail for the remainder of the season.

“This season I have been working on getting as many starts as I can - and as many goals,” she said. “I’m working hard to help the team.

“It’s not been the best we’ve ever done in the league and we were hoping to do a lot better. In this second half we know we need to push.

“We played well in most of the games before the break but unfortunately we just couldn’t get the results and that was disappointing.

“There’s quite a lot of youth in the team and the mix with experience really helps. We’ve got girls who can lead the younger ones.”

Giving his take on the weekend’s Scottish Cup win, head coach Jason McCrindle said he was delighted to get the job done.

“It could have been a lot more comfortable but Boroughmuir were a good side and we knew their threats,” McCrindle added.

“We didn’t perform as well as the Partick game but if you said to me before that we’d be in the last 16 of the cup, then I’d have taken it.

“We’ve reached the last eight in the past three seasons so we are proud of our cup runs and we always want to match and better it.

“We’ll be looking to get into the last eight and then start dreaming. The Scottish Cup is a great occasion.”

Saints, who sit second bottom of the Scottish Women’s Premier League 2, continue their campaign by welcoming league leaders Hamilton this weekend.

McCrindle said: “We’ve been playing well and this Sunday is going to be tough against Hamilton, who are top of the league.

“Earlier in the season we went there and drew 1-1, so we have nothing to fear. We’re at home so we’ll look to play on the front foot.”

Kick-off at McDiarmid Park on Sunday is 4pm.
