Ragan plays his part in Kinnoull’s strong start to season

-

Every game is a leap into the unknown at present - but striker Ben Ragan reckons it’s bringing out the best in the Kinnoull squad.

The Tulloch Park men’s start to East of Scotland League football has been impressive, winning their opening four Conference A fixtures.

Wednesday night’s hard-fought 1-0 victory against Oakley United - Dale Smart the scorer on 86 minutes maintained the 100 per cent record.

Ragan has certainly played his part in Kinnoull’s strong start and recently chipped in with four goals against ninth-placed Ormiston.

Attentions turn to a Football Nation Qualifying Cup first round encounter at home to Edinburgh United on Saturday afternoon.

And Ragan said:“We have had a good start to the season and we are all enjoying the new challenge but we are taking every game as it comes.

“We have settled in very quickly, mostly due to the hard work we have all put in including the staff.

“The opposition is a new challenge but so far we’ve Kinnoull’s Ben Ragan

coped very well and hope to carry on as long as we can.

“I don’t know much about Edinburgh United but the management have been working hard so I’m sure they’ll be well prepared.

“Obviously we don’t know much about the teams in this league. But they don’t know much about us either, so every game has some excitement to it.

“Personally I am very pleased with the amount of goals I’ve scored so far. I would like to score at least 20 goals this season.”

Jeanfield Swifts also take to the field in the Football Nation Qualifying Cup this weekend and host fellow Premier Division side Broxburn.

“It sounds like Broxburn have roughly the same team as last year,”said Swifts goalkeeper Mark Mitchell.

“We played them three or four times last season and they were always close.

“They pipped us at the top end of the league and I’m sure it will be another tough one. They are a very honest, hard-working side.

“But we’re confident after beating Coldstream 9-1. We were absolutely ruthless and constant from the first whistle to the last.

“The boys are hungry and there is certainly a lot more competition for places now, which is only a good thing.”
