Nobody told us, say unhappy traders

am not happy about this.

“I hope the works take less than two months, I am not happy with the council shutting off the road.

“This is my main time, it is the busy wedding season, how will folk get here?

“I know the road needs resurfaced, but why do it in August?

“I have summer tourists and other folk trying to get in.

“We have not had any letters about this.”

Veronika Petrickova from The Cheese Byre also said: “If people know the road is closed they won’t bother to come here.

“We are walking distance from the centre for pedestrians, so it just depends.

“Two months is a long time, but if it needs to be done and it is impossible to do it without closing the

road, I hope it will be okay for us.”

Claire Cameron, from The Range Cooker Centre, said she is worried about the road closure as she takes the bus into work each day. She said: “I had no idea about this road closure. “I get the bus in every day and I come down Atholl Street, and we have not heard anything at all about this.

“Most of our customers park in the town and walk along to us, but if it is hard for them to actually get into the town, that is not great.

“The council is about as much use as a chocolate teapot.”

The road closure will include the A989 Atholl Street from its junction with Stormont Street and its junction with the A85 Barrack Street, a distance of just under 153 metres.

Similarly, the A85 Barrack Street from its junction with the A989 Atholl Street to its junction with St Catherine’s Road will be closed, a distance of just under 233 metres.

And the A989 Caledonian Road from its junction with the A989 Atholl Street to its junction with Longcauseway, a distance of 200 metres, will also be closed off.

As well as prohibiting driving on these streets, there will also be bans on parking and loading on a number of city centre roads as well.

This includes Florence Place from its junction with Balhousie Street to its junction with the A912 Dunkeld Road, Melville Street from its junction from the A989 Atholl Street to its junction with Balhousie Street, Balhousie Street from its junction with Melville Street to its junction with Florence Place, Blackwatch Gardens and Dewar Court from its junction with North Methven Street to its termination point, and Low Street from its junction with Balhousie Street to its termination point.

Local diversions will be put in place during the two month road closures for motorists.

Pedestrian and emergency access will be maintained throughout the works.

A spokesperson for North Inch and Muirton Community Council said: “Inevitably the community will be affected, but it’s important for road safety that the surface is repaired.”

Perth and Kinross Council was asked to comment, but did not reply in time for the PA going to print.
