Highland retreat” - he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner.

He then shouted and swore at other employees whilst in possession of a knife.

Depute fiscal Tina Dickie said the accused had been in a relationship with a female member of staff for the past two months but she had told him she was returning to Spain in a fortnight.

“Since the accused was told this, his behaviour has changed and he has been drinking on a daily basis.

“On the morning of Tuesday, August 13, the accused and another employee spent the day in Pitlochry drinking alcohol. They returned to the hotel about 6pm and at that time the accused became argumentative and aggressive towards others in the hotel.”

Sawicki was told to go to bed , but refused, and was eventually “taken” to his room about 9pm and left there.

But about 10.30pm he entered the bar but was refused alcohol because of his “intoxicated state.”

He returned to his room with his girlfriend but wanted to leave.

Another staff member appeared and she asked that person to get help.

“Two further members of staff entered the accused’s bedroom shortly after but he became aggressive, started shouting and swearing and grabbed a knife, which he hid behind his back, while continuing to act in an aggressive manner.”

Due to the “commotion,” the police were contacted and the 10-inch chef ’s knife was later recovered.

Solicitor Billy Somerville said his client “felt somewhat threatened” when other people entered his room.

“As soon as he realised his mistake, he threw the knife away.

“It seems to have been a short-lived moment.”

The lawyer said the accused intended to remain in the UK meantime but planned to travel to Spain to see his girlfriend.

Sawicki was bailed to his brother’s home in Christchurch Road, Newport, Wales.
