Hundreds take up shopping and transport loyalty app

-

A new app which rewards Perth shoppers and public transport users has been downloaded hundreds of time since its launch.

Perth-based technology company Miconex introduced the Mi Rewards app at the start of August to great popularity.

The app allows customers to check their points total and find new places to earn points, but in addition to this it automatically rewards them when they walk, wheelchair or cycle into Perth city centre.

The digital initiative is part of the Mi Rewards scheme, launched last September, which uses the Perth Gift Card, the only one of its kind in the UK.

This allowed shoppers to link their debit and credit card, and Apple Pay up with their Perth Gift Card account to receive a point for every £1 they spend in selected Perth businesses, as well as on Stagecoach buses.

Shoppers can then convert points to money to spend within the city centre.

The gift card can be spent in over 70 different businesses in the city centre including Perth Concert Hall and Perth Playhouse as well as restaurants, salons and shops.

As well as earning one point for every pound spent, people who register are also eligible for weekly perks.

Since the Mi Rewards launch, over 1900 people have set up their cards to Miconex founder Colin Munro (pictured) says hundreds in the region have downloaded the app

link with their payment cards, with the app also now proving to be a hit.

Colin Munro, managing director of Miconex, said:“We’ve had hundreds of app downloads since it was launched a couple of weeks ago.

“A mix of new people who want to earn mobility points and existing Mi Rewards users - over 1900 in Perth who want to use the app to check their points balance, find out where else they can earn points, among other things.

“The project is supported by Perth and Kinross Council who want to reward people for selecting active and sustainable travel choices.

“So now you can be rewards for spending money in local businesses, for using Stagecoach buses and for walking and cycling into Perth.”

The scheme was also introduced on the Perth park and ride service from Broxden to the city centre during the busy festive period last December.
