Over The Wall Minecraft workshop is a big success

-

Children with serious illnesses have been taking part in a Minecraft workshop in Perthshire.

Games development company 4J Studios has been running the workshops at the Over The Wall residential camp at Strathallan School.

Staff from 4J demonstrated the Toy Story Mashup Pack for Minecraft and explained how to develop skin design, mob design, texturing, user interface design and world design.

The campers then took part in a creative workshop to create some of their own designs on Minecraft.

Joshua Bramman, one of the campers, said:“The Minecraft activity was brilliant.

“It was so different from anything we had done before at camp, something unexpected.

“I really enjoyed meeting the team and asked them so many questions.

“It have me a great opportunity to draw and colour in some of my favourite characters and made me think about creating my own game.

“I hope something like this happens again.”

Over The Wall is a charity which provides free residential camps for children with serious illnesses.

It is hoped that by offering these camps, the children are able to reclaim some parts of their childhood their illness would have otherwise taken.

Kevin Mathieson, chief executive of Over The Wall, said:“At Over The Wall, we aim to remove the limitations serious illness has on play, by creating safe environments where anything is possible.

“Minecraft fits perfectly with our ethos, as it provides a tool that enables children to explore their own creativity without restriction. Those taking part in the Minecraft workshop

“I am delighted that we are working together, and that our campers were able to enjoy and express themselves through Minecraft.”

Over The Wall has also been shortlisted as one of nine charities

that could benefit from funds raised by the UK games industry charity GamesAid.

Anyone who works for the games industry can register for free to help fund the camps online at www.gamesaid.org
