Free-kick ace Mollison helps Kinnoull advance in cup

-

Set-piece specialist Scott Mollison netted two free-kicks as Kinnoull moved into round two of the Football Nation Qualifying Cup.

The full-back, on loan from Jeanfield Swifts, played a starring role in the 5-2 victory against Conference B side Edinburgh United at Tulloch Park.

Alan Cunningham, Dale Smart and Gordon Norrie also found the back of the net to make this a comfortable afternoon and continue a strong start to East of Scotland League football.

Mollison, who has just returned from an ankle injury, said:“To be honest the free-kicks were a little bit strange for me.

“I’ve taken set-pieces since I was young but in the Jeanfield team there’s a lot of very technical players, so to get the chance to take free-kicks is very slim.

“I was confident with the first as it was from a good range. Scoring that gave me the belief to score the second as well.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve scored so to get a double in only my second game back after a very long Kinnoull have had plenty to celebrate in the East of Scotland League so far this season spell out injured felt class. There’s no better feeling than scoring on a Saturday afternoon.” Mollison has been impressed with what he’s seen from his new team-mates since making the temporary switch from Swifts.

“I want to play as much as I can before the loan spell ends, but for me it means more what I can do to help the team in any way possible,”Mollison explained to the Perthshire Advertiser.

“I honestly believe Kinnoull have a great chance of doing well in this league, so I’d like to think I can be as big a part of that as I can in the time I’m here.

“After the first few league games with Jeanfield both the manager and I discussed a potential loan move elsewhere to try and get some minutes under my belt.

“I knew it would be hard getting back into the team after eight months out so we both decided it would be best to go and get some games.

“Kinnoull have actually surprised me a little. I knew they had quality in the squad but they have a very young team.

“And that, for me, would maybe be their downfall against some of the old junior clubs.

“But for having such a young squad they are very mature in the way they play and each individual knows their role. I’ve been very impressed with the squad.”
