Meigle leave the field of play Arran McKay was a relieved man following Scone Thistle’s determined 2-1 victory against Dundee North End on Saturday.

The Jags’ full-back was sent off with the score locked at 1-1 but watched on from the sidelines as Aiden Benvie grabbed a dramatic late winner.

McKay had actually nodded the Perthshire men in front at the beginning of the second half before his afternoon took a turn.

“I gave the boys a lot to do when I got sent off but they showed great character to keep attacking when they could ,” McKay told the PA.

“And it paid off with Benvie snatching the late winner.

“Relieved would be an understatement when I watched the ball hit the back of the net.

“I thought the second booking for the sending off was harsh as I won the ball Arran McKay

but it’s the referee’s decision at the end of the day.

“I knew the boys would do all they could to at least get the draw but to score late on, catching them on the counter, was brilliant.

“It’s always pleasing to get on the scoresheet in any game but I’m glad that’s me off the mark for the season.

“I’ve been playing right back in the last few games so it’s only really at set-pieces I’ll get my chance.

“Overall I think it was a fairly even contest.

“The wind didn’t help either team and both had a few chances so we deserved something from it.

“The boys were buzzing as we failed to beat Dundee North End last season and it meant we climbed above them in the league as well.”

Scone now sit sixth in the North Super League and McKay added: “We always knew going up a league was going to be tough.

“There’s never an easy game but I think we’ve shown already we can compete.”
