Team rush to man following roof fall

-

The SCAA chopper made an unscheduled visit to Killin Show’s grounds on Friday as the event was being set up - when it touched down to attend a nearby emergency.

This was following a call to a man who had fallen from a roof, sustaining serious injuries.

An off-duty firefighter drove one of the SCAA paramedics to the accident scene and a land ambulance then transported the patient the short distance to the waiting helicopter.

The patient, suffering back and chest injuries, was airlifted by SCAA to advanced care at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

SCAA worked alongside Scottish Ambulance Service colleagues again at the scene of a motocross accident near Doune at the weekend. SCAA landed close to the accident at the motocross track and airlifted the rider, suffering leg injuries, to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital at Glasgow.

A medical emergency involving a woman on Arran saw SCAA make the flight to the island and airlift her safely and rapidly to vital care on the mainland at Crosshouse Hospital, Kilmarnock.

The past week’s missions for the emergency response crew also included deployment of the charity’s rapid response vehicle.

The fully-equipped emergency response land vehicle attended a nearby patient with breathing difficulties.

SCAA was first on scene and worked with land crew colleagues before the patient was taken by land ambulance to Perth Royal Infirmary.

Crowds at the Perth Salute on Sunday donated £668.08 to SCAA through a bucket collection during the street parade and at the arena performance on the North Inch.

Members of the DMR Tractor Club in Aberfeldy held a tractor run and presented a cheque for £720.50 to SCAA at the recent Aberfeldy Highland Show.

The Ladies Day Fundraising group from Blairgowrie visited SCAA’s Perth Airport base this week to present a cheque for over £7000 raised through various fundraising streams, including an event attended by 130 women at The Red House in Coupar Angus last month.

Meggernie Gun Club also hit the target for the air ambulance charity with a donation for £225 raised at its annual team clay shoot in Glenlyon.

Motorists continue to support SCAA through the voluntary pennies giving scheme when they fill up with fuel at Broxden services. The total raised in the past month was £6738.07.

Thanks also to a Scone couple who donated £200 to SCAA this week - the latest donation in their much appreciated on-going support.

And a man from Meigle has kindly gifted £50 in support of the life-saving service.

Pitlochry Station Bookshop gave a further £300, taking their donations to date to £35,116.

The Morris Leslie Group donated funds this week - a mini digger challenge at the Black Isle Show dug up £54.27 while a visit to the company’s vintage car collection by staff of the Dundee Museum of Transport drove a further £100 towards the charity.

A London-based production company gave £102.49 following some recent filming work at Perth Airport. And locally placed SCAA cans emptied this week include: Elmwood Golf Club, Cupar £52.27; Riverbank Cafe, Pitlochry £74.74; Inchmichael Garage, Errol £33.61 and Broxden Services, Perth £66.69.
