Teen’s rampage at Perth hospital

-

Community Payback Order imposed as a “direct alternative” to a prison sentence.

She will be supervised for nine months and will have to attend alcohol and mental health treatment as required.

Her progress will be monitored on December 18.

She admitted repeatedly shouting and swearing and making threats and indecent remarks at the Taymount Terrace complex on February 9 this year.

She was subject to a November 26, 2018, bail order at the time.

Depute fiscal Catriona MacQueen told Perth Sheriff Court the A&E Department was “very busy” at the time, with elderly patients requiring emergency medical support and there was also an infant in “serious need” of attention.

The fiscal added: “Patients were visibly upset and those on either side of her required to be moved into quiet rooms or other treatment bays.

“The accused caused considerable disturbance.”

Labrum also pled guilty to assaulting PC John Maddocks by kicking him to the body in a separate incident in Perth’s Atholl Street on November 25 last year.

The court was told the teen had been at a party where people had been consuming alcohol over a “number of hours” throughout the evening.

The police and ambulance services were alerted shortly before 11.30pm because of “concerns” for the accused.

She had injuries to her arms, which were covered in blood, and she was in a “highly intoxicated” state.

She confirmed she had self-harmed by cutting her arms with a broken piece of glass from a bottle.

When she was taken to the ambulance she became aggressive and then lashed out at the police officer who was trying to help her.

He was struck on the calf but didn’t require medical attention.

Solicitor Billy Somerville said that Labrum had mental health issues but consuming alcohol wasn’t “helping her.”

Imposing the Community Payback Order, Sheriff Gillian Wade noted the accused hadn’t come to the attention of the police in recent times.

But she added: “I think it’s essential you are supported in the short to medium term.”
