Event will highlight care in rural areas
The Care and Wellbeing Co-operative is cohosting a free event in Aberfeldy Town Hall this Friday, August 23, highlighting care in Highland Perthshire.
The drop-in event, ‘How Does Highland Perthshire Care?’, is being organised by the Care and Wellbeing Co-op in conjunction with Rural Wisdom and Support Choices, a new group based in Dunkeld.
A number of groups and organisations from Highland Perthshire will be at the event, which is open from 10am to 4pm, providing advice and information on the range of care and support options that are available, as well as how to be part of providing care and support in the area.
There will be advice on help with finance and accessing benefits, community activities and services, who can provide care, looking after your physical and mental health and much more.
The Care and Wellbeing Coop’s members offer personalised care, support and well-being services in rural Perthshire.
Working alongside local communities, the Health and Social Care Partnership, private care providers and voluntary sector groups, the Care and Wellbeing Co-op, which was set up in 2015, aims to support people, in particular older people and those with additional needs and health problems, to lead the life they want in their local community.
It also aims to create and support a network of micro-businesses and social enterprises delivering a range of services within the care and wellbeing sectors, and in a variety of different ways.
Support Choices is a new project that helps people living in Perth and Kinross get the social care and support they need.
Funded by the Scottish Government it provides independent advice, advocacy and other forms of support to those trying to access social care or other forms of communitybased support
Donna Murray-Trail is the co-ordinator of the Care and Wellbeing Co-op.
She said: “We are absolutely delighted to be part of this event in Aberfeldy.
“We offer a community-led approach to the provision of rural care and wellbeing and this event is a great example of that in action.
“Care tends to be something that people think about when there is illness or disability and it’s often at a point of crisis, so having information in advance can be very helpful.
“This event offers an opportunity to find out what advice and support is out there and how you can best use it to make your life and those you care about better.
“There will be all kinds of information and support and advice from community groups, Perth and Kinross Council, legal and welfare organisations, financial information, therapies and more.
“If you’re interested in working in the care sector either for a company or for yourself, there will be opportunities and information on that too.
“We’ll also have a cafe with free refreshments which will be available during the event so come and have a cuppa and a chat. And there will be a free soup lunch which will run from noon to 2pm.
“Everyone is welcome. Please do come along and tell your friends and people who you think might be interested.”
