Praise for carers’ hub as some special visitors get a tour

-

MSP Paul Graham, Cllr Caroline Sheirs, Raymond Jamieson and Murdo Fraser The work of the Perth Carers’Hub has been praised by two Perthshire representatives following a recent visit.

PKC convener of lifelong learning, Councillor Caroline Shiers, and Mid Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser were shown round the carers’hub in North Muirton, opened earlier this year under the auspices of Perth and Kinross Association for Voluntary Service (PKAVS).

The new centre focuses on support for both adult and young carers, and is supported by Perth and Kinross Council as well as a number of charitable trusts.

Murdo Fraser and Caroline Shiers were hosted on the visit by chief executive of PKAVS, Paul Graham, and centre manager, Raymond Jamieson.

Speaking after the visit, Mr Fraser said:“The PKAVS carers’hub is a fantastic resource for the people of Perth and Kinross and I am grateful to Paul and Raymond for their time in showing us around.

“Historically there has been a great deal of unmet need for carers in the area, and the resource that has been put in to the new centre will help those who are struggling in caring roles.

“I was particularly pleased to see the work that is being done for young carers, which is a legacy of Councillor Barbara Vaughan, who was a close friend and sadly died two years ago.

“I know Barbara would be delighted to see the work now being carried out in her name.”

Cllr Shiers added:“One of the priorities of the new Scottish Conservative-led administration in Perth and Kinross Council was to increase support for carers in the area, particularly young carers.

“The investment the council has made in this area has allowed PKAVS to expand its work, and I am delighted to see the progress that is being made in expanding services.”
