Scone buzzing ahead of Kirrie Thistle test

-

Scone Thistle players have had an extra spring in their step this week.

That was the message from midfielder Martin Strachan following the Farquharson Park men’s hardfought win against Dundee North End last Saturday.

The Jags battled to a 2-1 triumph in that encounter despite being reduced to 10 men with the score level in the latter stages of the match.

A late winner has lifted spirits further in the camp and has them feeling fired up to bag another three points to nudge further up the standings.

Kirriemuir Thistle, who sit two places below Scone in the North Super League, are the visitors to Perthshire tomorrow afternoon.

They have picked up one win from their four league matches to date and, in their most recent fixture, went down 5-3 against Downfield.

Strachan is sure Kirrie will make life difficult but is determined to give home supporters more to cheer about.

“This week’s game at home to Kirriemuir is going to be another tough match,”Strachan told the Perthshire Advertiser.

“It will most likely be another battle, like the Dundee North End game, which we are looking forward to.

“We know if we are to stay up this season then we have to do well at home, so the target will most definitely be three points.

“Last week’s game against North End has given us a massive buzz going into Saturday’s game.

“That is especially after the defeat to Downfield on the Wednesday before, which we feel we should never have lost.”

Scone have two wins to their name from five games - against Luncarty and Dundee North End - which is a start Strachan is pleased with.

“Our start overall has been good,”he said.“We would have liked to have gained another point at least from that Downfield game.

“But we are still happy and just hope to add to the points we already have.”

Kick-off at Farquharson Park is 2.30pm on Saturday afternoon.
