Charged with theft of Co-op cash and cigs

-

A 40-year-old man denied stealing almost £1400 in cash and hundreds of pounds worth of cigarettes from a locked kiosk at a Highland Perthshire Co-op store when he appeared from custody at Perth Sheriff Court.

Alan David Marshall, whose address was given on the charge as Main Street, Methven, also faced five other charges, including having cannabis - and a lock knife - in his possession.

He is alleged to have used a true key, feloniously obtained, to get access to the kiosk at the Co-op, West Moulin Road, Pitlochry, on August 21, 2019.

He is accused of stealing £1387.52p in cash, as well as £439.77p worth of cigarettes while subject to an August 12, 2019, bail order from the Perth court.

On a further occasion on August 21, he is said to have been found in the main shop floor at the Co-op without lawful authority and in circumstances where it might reasonably be inferred that he intended to commit theft there.

A third charge claims that on August 21, he was found in the internal corridor of the store, outside the cash room door, again in suspicious circumstances.

On August 27, 2019, in West Moulin Road, Pitlochry, he is accused of using a black Toyota Yaris car without a test certificate. Two final charges allege that he had the Class B drug and the blade in his possession in West Moulin Road on August 27.

Represented by Perth lawyer David Holmes, the accused gave his bail address as Nimmo Place, Perth.

Special conditions were imposed, banning him from entering the Pitlochry Co-op and restricting him to the Perth address from 9pm-7am, seven days a week until his trial on December 12.

An earlier hearing was scheduled for November 28. The accused will also have to answer the door to Police Scotland officers when checking his curfew.
