Successful day at Dunning charity open

-

Dunning Golf Club has, to date, raised a grand total of £3155.50 from its annual nine-hole charity open, surpassing its £3000 target for the first time.

The two chosen charities this year were Playlist for Life, which provides personal music for those with dementia, and the Colorectal Trust Fund at Perth Royal Infirmary.

The well-supported event - almost 100 took part - was held over their Rollo Park course on August 24.

Club captain Alex Gordon yesterday paid tribute to the many club members and supporters who helped contribute to the outstanding success of the tournament.

“We are indebted to everyone who put in a power of work not only in the lead-up to the event but on the actual day itself,” he said.

“A huge round of applause is due to all who worked to make the day happen. Well done, especially under the heat.”

Some cash has still to be collected but a detailed break-down so far is as follows:

Player entries and on-the-day donations (97 played) - £1201; sponsors - £1200; donations (prior) - £250; raffle - £100; tombola/putting, etc. - £404.50p.

Alan Hill, match and handicap secretary, added: “Alex himself deserves a huge amount of credit for being the driving force behind the day.

“He put in a huge amount of work before and during the event to ensure it went off so well.”

The 2019 charity event was the fifth year that Dunning GC has organised such a tournament.

“We feel it is our duty to do this - as a club that is very much at the heart of the Dunning community,” Alan added.

“We have taken pains to ensure that we choose charities that are very relevant to the demographic profile of our membership - our average age is 68.

“We are delighted, therefore, that two very deserving causes will be getting much-needed boosts to their funds.”

The winner of the event was Roger Jackson, from Lochgelly, with a net 27, and the ladies’ best score was Margaret Cairns, with a net 30.5. Non-handicap - Ronnie Bowie; nearest the pin at 4th - Andrew Stewart; nearest the pin in two (2nd hole) - Jean McEwan; straightest drive on 8th - Hugh Gowrie.
