Crew fly to help man struck by tree

-

A man was badly injured when he was struck by a falling tree while working at woodland near Killiecrankie at the weekend.

Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) was on scene within 10 minutes, landing in a field next to the forest.

SCAA paramedics worked with colleagues from the Scottish Ambulance Service and Police Scotland to tend the injured man and stretcher him to the waiting helicopter.

He was then airlifted on a 15 minute flight to the major trauma centre at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, with back injuries.

SCAA was also quickly on scene for a road traffic collision on the A91 near Tillicoultry on Tuesday.

A motorcyclist was injured in a collision with a car, prompting a multi-service response involving Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service as well as a land ambulance crew and SCAA.

The motorcyclist, suffering lower leg injuries, was airlifted by SCAA to advanced care at Ninewells Hospital.

Other emergencies attended by SCAA in the past week include an accident involving a cyclist on a rural road near Glenfarg.

SCAA was first on scene, landing in a field next to the accident.

SCAA paramedics worked with land crew colleagues before the injured man was taken to hospital by road, freeing the air ambulance up for further calls.

A swim along the length of Loch Tay by two intrepid Aberfeldy fundraisers has secured more than £3000 for SCAA.

Beth Scholes and SamanthaWeir conquered the epic 15-mile challenge in eight-and-a-half hours to support the work done in Highland Perthshire and beyond by the air ambulance charity.

Two stalwart SCAA supporting sisters from Blairgowrie have secured a further £212.20 for the charity by taking part in a local car boot sale.

Those attending the annual Amulree and Trochry Shoot recently donated £75.46 to SCAA.

And guests at a certain wedding in Perth this weekend will receive favours with a difference. The bride-to-be donated £200 to SCAA in exchange for charity pin badges to give her guests.

Several Perthshire supporters will don their kilts and join the 16-strong SCAA team taking part in the Edinburgh Kilt Walk this Sunday.

And residents and staff at Kincarrathie House will hear about the work of SCAA at a presentation there on Monday afternoon at 2pm.
