WEIGHTLIFTING

-

Six members of Pitlochry Weightlifting Club were in action at the Scottish under18s and Scottish Development Cup round three on Saturday.

The event was held on home soil at the Live Active Atholl leisure centre and witnessed a number of top performances.

In the Development Cup, Craig Meldrum won the 55kg under-11 class with a 20kg snatch and a 28kg clean and jerk for a 118 biddle points total.

Eve Kemp won the 55kg under-12 class with a 27kg snatch and a 37kg jerk for a 132 points total. And in the 45kg under-12 class, Kaine Johnston performed well to place second with a 18kg snatch and a 22kg jerk for a 106 points total.

Logan Johnston, meanwhile, was second in the 49kg under-13 class with a 20kg snatch and a 27kg jerk for a 119 points total. All four lifters achieved personal bests.

In the Scottish under-18s, Aimee Robertson won her eighth Scottish title in the 59kg class with a 38kg snatch and a 52kg jerk for a 90kg total. Aimee set nine new Scottish records at under-15 and under-16 level.

Carrying on the success was Holly Morrogh Bernard, who won her 20th Scottish title when she triumphed in the 81kg class.

Holly snatched 63kg but, due to her sustaining an injury, only managed a 65kg clean and jerk for a 128kg total. This was still good enough to win the overall best female lifter award.

Unfortunately, Jamie Kemp had to withdraw at the last minute due to illness.

Pitlochry Weightlifting Club wish to thank the staff at the Live Active Atholl centre, Malcolm McIver and the Pitlochry Co-op for their help with the running of this competition.”
