Relay determined swim earns Harry top award

-

A novice swimmer’s determination not to let his relay team be beaten has earned him the latest League Team Star trophy at Perth City Swim Club.

Harry Martin’s come-frombehind final leg in the team’s medley relay helped Perth to secure an overall victory in the latest gala at the weekend.

The coaching team agreed that nine-year-old Harry’s efforts made him a worthy recipient of the Binn Group-sponsored trophy.

Team manager Gordon Currie said:“Harry was on the final leg of the under-10 boys medley, which was only the second race of the night.

“The rest of the boys had done well, but Harry was a bit behind the leader when he entered the water, so he had a lot of work still to do.

“It was clear he was determined not to let the side down and he caught up and then went past his rival in the last few metres.

“It was an exciting race and the rest of the team were on their feet cheering Harry on when they could see he was catching up and going to win.

“Harry’s determination was inspiring for the rest of the team and set the tone for the evening.

“Seeing your team-mates believe they can win really rubs off on everyone.

“Binn Group wanted to give an award to a swimmer who makes a positive contribution to the team and Harry certainly did that this time.”

The club won the gala in Arbroath on Saturday evening and have a narrow lead over Monifieth in the Midland Premier Division, with one gala remaining in Dundee in November.
