FOOTBALL Coupar Angus up for the challenge

-

Coupar Angus manager Lindsay Cruickshank admits he would have preferred another league game this weekend.

The Foxhall Park men are on a high after recording their second win of the North Premier League season on Saturday afternoon.

They edged out Brechin Vics 1-0 courtesy of a Sam King finish but the focus now turns to Quest Engineering Cup action and a trip to Downfield.

“We defended really well against Brechin and we played decent football,”Cruickshank said.“It’s a result that I felt had been coming.

“We’ve been working on a bit of shape with a new coach and it paid off on Saturday. It was a well-worked goal right through the team.

“Their manager came over at full-time and said that we had played really well as a unit. The only thing is we now need to play Downfield.

“I would have liked another league game on Saturday, but it’s not worked that way. We’ll see what happens.

“We’ll play our own game and take it from there. If we go there and put on a good showing, but are simply beaten by the better team, then I’m happy.”

Cruickshank is expecting to be able to name a strong squad for the fixture in Dundee.

“I don’t want to go through there and just lie down, letting them run over the top of us,”he added. “Hopefully we have a buzz from last weekend.”

Blairgowrie, meanwhile, will be involved in the only Premier League North fixture this weekend and welcome Lochee Harp to Davie Park.

Mark Brash’s side, unbeaten in their opening seven matches, are in a buoyant mood following last Saturday’s 4-3 win over Dundee Violet.

Blair attacker Matty Adam, speaking after the game, said:“We were not anywhere near our best and found ourselves 3-2 down.

“But the boys showed a lot of fight and in the end we were relieved to come away with all three points with a great finish in the last few minutes.”
