Focus is key as Kinnoull welcome Spartans

-

Concentration will be key for Kinnoull when they go into battle with The Spartans this weekend.

That was the message from manager Alan Cameron ahead of their SFA South Region Challenge Cup second round clash at Tulloch Park.

“I know we beat St Andrews on Saturday but I sat them down after the game and went through it,”Cameron told the Perthshire Advertiser.

“We gave away a goal to make it a scary final few minutes.

“That was due to switching off and not concentrating fully. We need to make sure we concentrate right until the last kick of the ball.

“At this level, if you switch off, even for a split second, you’re going to concede a goal. But the standard at training has been excellent and the guys are positive.”

Cameron realises it will take a monumental performance to overturn their Lowland League visitors.

“We’ll have to work extremely hard to stay with them,”he said.“But you never know, they might underestimate us. You just never know in football.

“By all accounts they are a very good side and keep the ball well. These are the games you want to be playing in to test yourself.

“Two, three years ago we wouldn’t have been expecting to play teams of this calibre. We’ve now got that opportunity to see what it’s like.

“If everyone plays to their maximum, then I think we’re able to compete. We played Kelty Hearts in pre-season and gave a good account of ourselves.

“It’s easy to put out a team to defend, but taking the game to a team like Spartans is a bit more difficult. We’ll give it our best shot.”

Kinnoull hope to have former St Johnstone defender Gregor Donald, who represented Scotland at youth level, within their ranks for the match.

And Cameron added:“The squad is great but if quality comes up then we need to improve it to make us even more competitive.”

Kick-off is 2.30pm.
