Work starts on school’s indoor golf facility

-

Work has started on a brand new indoor golf facility at Glenalmond College which is being funded by former pupils for the benefit of future generations.

And staff say pupils from other local primary schools will soon get to test their swing as well as develop their short game within the facility too.

It will contain two full simulation bays featuring the latest ball flight technology, as well as a six-hole putting green for pupils to practice on once it is finished.

The project is being led by the school’s head of golf Tim Mitchell, and is being progressed now so it’s completed ahead of the centenary of Glenalmond Golf Course next year.

“Glenalmond has phenomenal potential in terms of what it will be able to offer children keen to develop their golfing skills,”said Mr Mitchell.

“We are the only school in Scotland with our own James Braid nine hole golf course and we have plans to further improve the course in the coming months. The fact we have over 300 acres of grounds in total means we have huge scope to continue to develop our golf and other sporting facilities.

“Our course was designed 99 years ago by James Braid, featuring two par fives and a par three which could grace the links of any course on The Open rota.

“The new indoor facility means children will be able to continue to practice when the weather is difficult and we are particularly looking forward to welcoming children from local schools to take advantage of the new facilities we will have later this year too.”

Glenalmond College is hosting an open day on Saturday, September 21 from 10am to 2pm. Families are invited to visit for a tour to see its facilities and meet pupils and staff.
