Julie inspired to help in fight against cancer

-

A Perth businesswoman has spent three months fundraising for a cancer charity.

Fitness fanatic Julie Cumming has been busy whipping a team of willing participants into shape to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The charity is close to Julie’s heart, as her father is terminally ill with cancer, and her motherin-law died from the disease only a few months ago.

Julie offered free HIIT fitness classes on the North Inch in exchange for donations to her JustGiving page.

She had set up the online fundraising page earlier this year to raise money by running the Edinburgh Half Marathon, but kept the page open to raise even more funds.

Julie said: “My dad is terminally ill with cancer, and I lost my mumin-law just a few months ago to this terrible disease.

“It seems everyone you speak to knows someone that is suffering, and I thought I’d use my passion for exercise to encourage people to make a difference.”

Her class on the North Inch ran every Wednesday evening throughout the summer months, and over 40 people came along and donated on a regular basis.

Julie handed over a cheque for £2561.50 to Louise Mackay, Macmillan Cancer Support’s north of Scotland fundraising manager.

Louise said: “At Macmillan we are so thankful to have supporters like Julie who fundraise for us.

“Julie has been teaching her classes, come rain or shine, and has proven she has a great team of supporters who all want to get behind her and help people living with cancer find their best way through.

“Our ambition is to be there for everyone with cancer, right from the moment of diagnosis providing physical, financial and emotional support to help them find their best way through.”

Julie’s fundraising page is still open and donations can be made online via www.justgiving.com/ fundraising/julie-cumming3
