Anger at Atrium work
Enforcement action has been taken out against developers planning to build a care home on the former Atrium site in Perth.
The former Perth and Kinross Council offices on Glover Street were demolished last month, and the site is now flattened.
Developers are now being served with a breach of condition notice after workers carried out piling works after the permitted hours of operation.
Residents living near the site had complained about the“horrendous racket” the workers had made outside the permitted hours, causing Perth and Kinross Council to serve the breach of condition notice.
A spokesperson for the local authority said:“Perth and Kinross Council can confirm that a breach of condition notice has been served on the developers working on the former Atrium site in Glover Street, specifically regarding piling operations beyond permitted times on September 25.
“The developers have apologised for this incident and assured that further occurrences will not take place.
“Notwithstanding, it was considered appropriate to serve the notice, such that additional steps can be taken if required.
“We will continue to monitor the development and will consider our options should any further breaches of planning control be identified.”
This comes after residents complained to Perth City South councillor Willie Wilson, saying the pile drivers working on into the evening outwith the permitted hours was a clear breach of their planning conditions.
Cllr Wilson said:“We are pleased that the council took prompt action on this, and I have also asked whether the most appropriate equipment is being used in this residential area.”
Fellow Lib Dem campaigner Liz Barrett added:“Local residents have already had to suffer weeks of heavy vehicles, dirt, dust and vibration while the old buildings were demolished.”
The developers have been warned if there is any further breach they may be referred to the procurator fiscal.
The PA asked the construction developers Simply UK and McCarthy and Stone for a comment, but they had not responded by the time we went to press.
