Top industry award nomination for carer Lavinia

-

A local carer has been shortlisted for a top industry award.

Lavinia Tanu, who works as a care assistant at Balhousie Pitlochry Care Home, has been nominated in the carer category at the National Care Awards.

The nomination for Lavinia, who has worked at the Perthshire care home since it opened 10 years ago, is to recognise the“vital role”she plays in providing quality care.

Lavinia grew up in Romania, where she said respect for elders is strong.

She said:“As carers, it’s our job to be a family to our residents and to show them respect at the same time.

“They and their relatives entrust us to do that.”

Lavinia beat hundreds of other nominees to reach the finals of the National Care Awards, and is set to meet a judging panel in London on Friday, October 11.

Jill Kerr, group chief executive officer of Balhousie Care Group, said:“At Balhousie Care Group we call our staff ‘everyday heroes’, and it’s a phrase that speaks volumes.

“It sums up the respect we have for the devotion of staff like Lavinia who is at the frontline of care, delivering to the diverse and changing needs of our residents on a daily basis across 25 homes.

“That’s why it’s important to see her recognised with these nominations, which is very well deserved.”

The National Care Award winners will be announced at a glittering gala night on Thursday, November 28 at the Hilton Metropole in London, where over 700 guests are expected to be in attendance.
