Kirk ready to welcome vocal group

-

St John’s Music is excited to have begun a concert series and is preparing to welcome top vocal group Scottish Vocal Ensemble to perform at the Perth city kirk on October 27.

The St John’s Music group aims to provide a platform for the many talented musicians who live in and around Perthshire. And as well as supporting the local group, the season ahead welcomes distinguished performers from further afield.

St John’s Kirk has one of the finest choral acoustics in Scotland and St John’s Music is now in its ninth year of arranging events there throughout the autumn, winter and early spring.

Regular organ recitals are usually on the first Saturday of the month at 1pm, and concerts on occasional Sundays at 3pm.

Visitors to the church recently heard from American concert organist Dr Jane Gamble, who opened the season on October 5.

The next organ recital will be provided by John Riley from Edinburgh on November 2, followed by Aaron Hawthorne who is Young Theatre Organist of the Year 2019, hailing from Glasgow, Claire Innes-Hopkins of University of St Andrews, Perth’s own Howard Duthie and Hans Uwe Hielscher from Wiesbaden, Germany.

The varied programme of Sunday afternoon concerts will open at 3pm on Sunday, October 27 with the much anticipated Scottish Vocal Ensemble.

Completing a varied season over the coming months will be the Scottish Plainsong Choir, pianist Brian Davidson, Ferntower Ensemble and renowned jazz maestro, Richard Michael.

There is no admission charge but retiring donations are always invited to defray costs.
