Awards help to keep our Fair City beautiful

-

The winners of the 2019 Beautiful Perth Awards have been revealed at a special ceremony in Perth’s Salutation Hotel.

The awards celebrate the hard work of the many local residents, businesses and community groups who help make the Fair City bloom with colour and buzz with wildlife throughout the summer.

They are run by local charity Beautiful Perth, in partnership with Perth and Kinross Council’s Community Greenspace team.

Beautiful Perth volunteers take on extra duties as competition judges, visiting all the entries in August, looking for horticultural and environmental excellence.

The judges can award bronze, silver, silver gilt or gold medals, and they also choose the winners of each competition category.

The results of the Gannochy Garden Awards were also announced at the ceremony.

Organised by the Gannochy Trust for residents of its properties, these awards are also judged by Beautiful Perth volunteers, with categories for best garden and best patio garden.

Chairman John Summers congratulated all the entrants at the awards, saying: “We have been tremendously impressed by the gardens, displays and community projects we have seen this year.

“Every one of the entries has helped make Perth a beautiful place to live and work, and I am very proud to be a resident of a city where so many people take so much care of their local environment.

“And of course, we know that Perth’s reputation as a blooming lovely place draws in many visitors every year, bringing economic benefits as well.”

Beautiful Perth itself will find out at the end of this month whether it has been successful in winning the Britian in Bloom ‘champion of champions’ gong.
